International Health

The discipline of International Health deals with poverty-related health problems in low and middle income countries. Within this chapter an overview about the global setting and the idea of the tropEd-Network is provided. Benefits of education and career options in International Health are discussed.

As a multidisciplinary approach it combines Public Health, Epidemiology, Tropical Medicine, Economics, and Management Sciences, among others. In practice, International Health provides the promotion of health, i.e. prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation but also strengthening health systems and informing policy.
